This feature requires you to be using a Microsoft Exchange Server e-mail account in Cached Exchange Mode.
I can't turn on
Cached Exchange Mode.
One or more of the following may apply:
You do not have an Exchange e-mail account in your Microsoft Outlook profile.
Your Exchange server administrator may have disabled this functionality.
You have installed Microsoft Terminal Services.
My e-mail message is staying in the Outbox.
When you are using Cached Exchange Mode, a message may remain in the Outbox for up to one minute until the next synchronization with the computer running Exchange server occurs. If you want to send the message immediately, do the following:
I am only receiving message headers.
Check the Cached Exchange Mode setting to see if Download Headers is selected. You can change the behavior of how items are retrieved by selecting the option you want.
Note Cached Exchange Mode is available on the File menu only when you are using a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 e-mail account. For more information on the version of Exchange server you are connecting to, contact your Exchange server administrator.
I want to download headers only, but the option is not available.
Download Headers followed by the Full Item and Download Headers are available only when you are using a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 e-mail account. For more information on the version of Exchange server you are connecting to, contact your Exchange server administrator.
My e-mail messages "trickle" in.
When Microsoft Outlook synchronizes with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, the default setting is to download headers first, then to begin downloading the full item, including attachments, so you can begin working immediately. If a connection to the Exchange server is available, you can open or select a header-only item, and then Outlook will immediately retrieve the full item.
I want to use Remote Mail with
Cached Exchange Mode.
Cached Exchange Mode uses a local copy of your Exchange server mailbox that is saved on your computer as an Offline Folder file (.ost). Remote Mail can also use the .ost file, but in a different way. Remote Mail is designed to retrieve items from the Inbox only. Cached Exchange Mode provides far richer functionality than Remote Mail, including the ability to work with all folders in your mailbox. You cannot use both Remote Mail and Cached Exchange Mode.
My Offline Address Book is not updating when I use Cached Exchange Mode.
The Offline Address Book (OAB) is automatically updated every 24 hours, unless Microsoft Outlook is set to Download Headers or Outlook has detected a slow network connection and On Slow Connections Download Headers Only is selected. You can change these options.
Note Cached Exchange Mode is available on the File menu only when you are using a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 e-mail account. For more information on the version of Exchange server you are connecting to, contact your Exchange server administrator.
I am unable to change the folder where my Offline Folder file (.ost) is saved.
Cached Exchange Mode uses an Offline Folder file (.ost). Because the .ost file is in use when Microsoft Outlook is running in Cached Exchange Mode, you cannot specify a new file location.
To change the location, do the following:
When I use ActiveSync with Cached Exchange Mode, performance seems to decrease.
For best performance, make sure your mailbox settings are downloading full items. Full items are required by the ActiveSync software.
Note Cached Exchange Mode is available on the File menu only when you are using a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 e-mail account. For more information on the version of Exchange server you are connecting to, contact your Exchange server administrator.
I want to refresh a folder or the entire local copy of my data.
Clear all items in a folder from the local copy
Clear all items from the local copy
The file name and location is displayed in the File box.
The offline copy of your mailbox will be recreated. This may take several minutes, depending upon the size of your mailbox.
